It was a dark dusty night in the mid-nineties. Mr C had just finished a tour of Northern Working Men Clubs with his comedy show – ‘Allo ‘Allo ‘Goodbye – with fellow comedians Vicky Michelle, Su Pollard and Spit the dog. Despite being a hit on the circuit, the show finally came undone when Vicky and Spit were found in a compromising position one breezy November evening.
Mr C searched high and low – mainly low – to find his next comedy troop. He stumbled across a ragtag band of dubious characters whilst drinking in a hovel in Old Oxted. Despite the scruffy demeanour, smell and odious temperament the team bonded together and formed a new comedy vehicle – ‘Up Your Chuff’.
The team created a number of award-wining TV and Radio Shows which culminated in the early 2000s with a brilliant West End Show at New London Theatre –
After an amicable split – Mr C ran off with all the money, scripts and some Opal Fruits – Mr C put UYC to bed for a few years whilst he focussed on developing Film/Documentary projects – alongside some of the great poets/ lyricists in UK history – Pete Brown, Spike Hawkins, Michael Horowitz, Dick McBride and Sam Fox. Maybe not Sam Fox, but he definitely spiked her drink once!
In 2012, expecting the end of the world (according to the Mayan Calendar) Mr C decided to reboot the UYC crew in the form of a new radio show – ‘The UYC Experience’. Alongside his brother in arms The Other Mr C, the team built a great new comedy and music vehicle – focussing heavily on Classic Rock n Blues. They were soon joined by the well known plagiarist AMJ and a host of co-presenters. The new format allowed time to introduce new artists to the world and UYC soon became THE radio show for up and coming artists in the South East UK. By the time UYC reached its 8th birthday – the show had accumulated 4 Radio awards, introduced over 500 new musician and artists, hosted 4 separate festival events, interviewed hundreds of established artists and gleaned a worldwide audience – from West Coast USA through to East Coast Australia.
The show spawned a record label and a number of industry changing ventures in the music business.
From its humble beginnings, UYC has now arrived as a fully rounded adult themed music show with interviews, LIVE artists and an enviable fanbase. So – why not Syndicate… Why not indeed.
